A Monster Calls

Submitted by:

Library Voodoo

If you haven’t figured it out by now, you know that I tend to gravitate toward dark novels. I’m not sure exactly why, and sometimes I question this conscious choice, or is it really my subconscious? All philosophy aside, I picked up the novel, A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness merely because of the cover illustration.  (Sometimes, this random tactic works, and you do find a wonderful book!) A dark, charcoal drawing  of a horrific monster is pictured walking toward a small, forlorn farmhouse. However, this is not a book about a monster of myth. It’s a monster far worse than anything imagined.

Every so often you find a program or app that literally changes the way you work on your computer or smart phone. Twitter has changed the way I communicate with my friends and family on a daily basis; Netflix has changed the way I watch and enjoy movies and TV shows and Dropbox has changed the way I store and access files. USB drives are dead; the cloud is where it’s at!

The large, brown, porcelain cup made the slightest sound against the saucer and teaspoon as it was lowered down onto the table.  The milky foam was surrounded by a ring of cappuccino and lightly laced with shaved bits of chocolate on top. Ribbons of steam danced above the cup and swirled in the air.

The Avengers

Dear Joss Whedon,

I know you come from a comics background, but if you play video games could you please turn your favorite one into a movie? The Avengers has firmly cemented comic book movies as not just a genre of movie, but that they can be great on every level. We still have yet to get a good, let alone great, video game movie and if anyone could change that, it’s you. Thanks again for making some of the best TV, comics and movies of all time.

Your’s truly,

Optimusgene

The air screeches with the sound of a microphone being turned on. It echoes off of the cafeteria tile floor and center block walls. The walls had been painted white with a large blue eagle stenciled on them; the high school’s colors and mascot. Had the eagle come to life at that moment the screeching could have come from it.

Let's face it, the education system is in trouble. Besides the fact public education is running out of money, the students now a day don't seem to care about anything. So what can be done to shake things up and hopefully get the kids focused again?  How about randomly put a class of middle school kids on an island and have them kill each other off until there is only one left?
